PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police say a man is dead, while four other people have been hospitalized after a quintuple shooting in Philadelphia's Germantown neighborhood.

At least nine bullets were fired during the shooting, which happened at about 5:35 p.m. Thursday on Germantown Avenue near Mannheim Street.

According to Philadelphia police, someone shot a 28-year-old man in the head. He was taken from the scene to Einstein Hospital, but he was pronounced dead minutes later.

A 62-year-old man was shot numerous times, law enforcement said. He was transported to Einstein Hospital, and was listed in critical but stable condition.

Police said a 28-year-old woman was shot four times, twice each in the left and right sides of her rear end.

She also went to Einstein Hospital, along with a 41-year-old man who was shot in the right shoulder and a 29-year-old man who was shot in the right leg, according to authorities. All three of them were listed in stable condition.

No one was initially arrested.

NBC10 reports that someone fired the shots from a vehicle as it passed outside of a barber shop where the victims were.

The killing of the 28-year-old man was the 342nd homicide in Philadelphia this year to date. A 34-year-old man was shot and killed earlier Thursday afternoon in the Tacony neighborhood.

That total of 342 homicides to date is higher than any single year-long total from 2008 to 2017.
