PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A man was killed and another was critically wounded after a shooting in South Philadelphia near Chickie’s and Pete’s on Oct. 9. A 22-year-old man is now in custody.
Around 6 p.m. at Broad Street and Packer Avenue, police said two men in their 20s were in a car that was shot up — with at least 15 bullet holes on the driver’s side. They then crashed into a parked car.
One of the victims was hit in the chest, and he died in the hospital. He was identified as 23-year-old Hason Mason.
The other victim, also 23, was shot in the stomach and ran into the nearby Chickie’s and Pete’s to get help, which was packed for the Phillies and Eagles games. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
A woman was inside the parked car but she was not hurt. Police initially said the shooters were last seen in a small silver or dark-colored SUV. Police were unsure of a motive but said road rage was a possibility.
More than a month later, on Nov. 17, Philadelphia police issued an arrest warrant for the suspected shooter, 22-year-old Abou Keita. He was taken into custody without incident and charged with murder, aggravated assault, gun violations, and related offenses.
