BRISTOL TWP., Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — An 11-year-old boy is in custody after police say he pulled out a gun Tuesday and fired at a house as he walked home from school.
Police were called to a home on Goldenridge Drive in Levittown around 4 p.m. after a bullet hit a wall inside a bedroom. No one inside the home was injured.
The bullet came from a gun fired by the Ben Franklin Middle School student, according to authorities who say they have recovered the .380-caliber handgun. They are trying to find out if the boy brought that gun to school with him.
Bristol Township Police say the house does not appear to have been targeted. Bristol Township School District officials say it was an isolated incident and emphasize there are no active threats against any school.
However, as a precaution, Franklin transitioned to a remote learning day on Wednesday, and Bristol Township Police increased their presence at all other district schools “out of an abundance of caution.”
According to a statement from the district, the student has been identified and was immediately removed from school, and the disciplinary process to have the boy expelled has begun.
