SPRINGFIELD (KYW Newsradio) — Three people were hospitalized after overhead wires came down on a SEPTA D1 Trolley this morning in Springfield.

A SEPTA spokesperson said the operator and all 10 people aboard the trolley were injured in the accident, but only three were taken to Lankenau Hospital in the aftermath for continued care.

Officials said none of the injuries were serious, there was no risk of electric shock, and that the wires came down after being tangled with the overhead power arm of the trolley. Investigators are still trying to figure out how the arm and wires got tangled.

The incident happened the same morning of another SEPTA accident and within the 24-hour span of a second. Earlier in the morning, the Manayunk-Norristown Regional Rail line was suspended after a man was struck and killed by a train in East Falls. Last night, a Media-Elwynn train struck and killed a person between Morton and Secane stations in Delaware County.

In place of the D1 trolley, which operates between the 69th Street Station and Media, shuttle buses are being used between Woodland Avenue and Drexel Hill Junction stations. Updates to service are available on SEPTA’s website.
