PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Three men accused of shooting four people at a West Philadelphia recreation center two years ago pleaded guilty Monday morning just before their trial was set to begin.

Tahmir Pickney, 25, Marlon Spurell, 24, and Azyear Sutton-Walker, 24, admitted they fired shots at the Shepard Recreation Center in August 2022, injuring four, including a 17-year-old who suffered several bullet wounds to the head but survived.

They each pleaded guilty to four counts of aggravated assault, conspiracy and a gun charge.

Authorities say a youth summer camp was wrapping up just before 7 p.m. when shots rang out. They say two officers in the area heard the gunfire and saw six men run into a white Durango before it took off.

They say police followed the car and eventually, it hit a wall. The defendants jumped out and ran — three were caught and arrested.

Prosecutors say nearly 100 shots were fired — five guns were found on the scene and six firearms were found inside the SUV. They say DNA from four of the guns matched Sutton-Walker, two matched Pickney and one matched Spurell. They say all tested positive for gunpowder residue on their clothing.

All three are expected to be sentenced in March and face decades in prison.

Investigators are still working to identify the other three shooters.
