NORRISTOWN., Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — As the country deals with the aftermath of the Jan. 6 storming of the U.S. Capitol and the potential for more violence, officials say someone fired a gun into the Montgomery County Democratic Committee office.

Committee Chair Joe Foster says their executive director stopped by the office on Airy Street in Norristown to pick up the mail around 4 p.m. Wednesday.

"And he just happened to be walking by the front windows when he saw the three bullet holes," Fister said. "He called me, and then we called the police and subsequently called the FBI."

Police said they believed the bullets had been fired at some point within the 24 hours prior to the discovery. This office is directly across the street from the county courthouse, so there are plenty of cameras around.

The shots pierced the front window of the office along with a campaign sign for Attorney General Josh Shapiro that is taped to the glass, and the bullets were lodged in a desk by the window.

Foster says he believes this happening on Inauguration Day was no coincidence.

"We did receive a threatening email previously that bad things would happen. And they did mention the office directly," he said.

Foster says heated political rhetoric is to blame and the act would be equally wrong if it happened to Republicans.

"This is the world we live in. This is the world that was created by individuals, their lies and their resorting to violence, and I think it’s given permission to people to behave this kind of way."
