SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — Four more people have pleaded guilty for their roles in the shooting of a New Jersey State Police detective almost five years ago.
Detective Richard Hershey was injured when he was shot at a mobile home park in Pittsgrove, Salem County in April 2020. Investigators say these defendants were involved in various ways and the shooters have already been sentenced to decades in prison.
30-year-old Markese Rodgers will serve five years in prison. 25-year-old Noel Lazu will serve three years. Two others were released on probation after time served.
The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office says Hershey was investigating a home invasion and speaking with a witness when they were ambushed by a group of 15 people. More than a dozen shots were fired at them and Hershey suffered a significant injury.
He has since recovered and returned to duty.
