PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Montgomery County SPCA is looking after a dog and five puppies who were mistreated and abandoned behind a shopping center in Wyncote, while police search for their abusers.
Cheltenham Township Police were called to Shoppers Lane, a small road behind a shopping center that includes a Target, ShopRite and Home Depot, around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.
There, officers found two small crates. Inside one of them was an adult male cattle dog. Five puppies, all six months old, were crammed into the other container.
Police said the dogs appeared malnourished and neglected. The Montgomery County SPCA in Conshohocken made a similar assessment, saying while the adult was in decent physical condition, the pups were all underweight, filthy and terrified upon arrival at the shelter.
MCSPCA also said whoever abused the dogs may still have the mother or others in poor condition. Cheltenham Detectives and Animal Control are working with the SPCA’s Humane Society Police Officers to find whoever is responsible. Anyone with information should contact Cheltenham Township Police and/or the Montgomery County SPCA.
