MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — A man wanted in connection with the rape of a Penn State Abington freshman last fall has turned himself in, just one day after officials put out a media campaign in search of him.
Abdul-Jabril Cooper, 19, is charged with raping a female in his campus apartment last September.
Cooper was a student at the Abington campus at the time of the incident, but is no longer enrolled.
Officials say his family was uncooperative throughout the process. In July, the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office issued a rape warrant for Cooper. He was offered the opportunity to surrender, but evaded detectives until Tuesday afternoon, when he turned himself in to campus police with his attorney.
“I hope that the healing process can start now. I hope that the victim can feel some relief, that the individual who has been charged with violating her is now in custody,” said Robert Clark, supervisory deputy for the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force in Philadelphia.
