MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA (KYW Newsradio) — An Abington police officer assigned to the high school as a resource officer is arrested and facing charges after being accused of having an intimate relationship with a student.
An investigation into the matter began earlier this week after a 17-year-old told her school counselor she’d been having an inappropriate relationship with 29-year-old Jordan Jones since November 2023, when Jones asked her if she’d be interested in walking his dog.
She says she visited his home and that they had sex about 15 times throughout the school year.
Because Jones was employed by Abington police, the department handed the investigation off to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.
According to the complaint, a Montgomery County detective monitored a phone call between the girl and Jones where Jones is quoted in charging documents saying he trusts she wouldn’t try to get him arrested, while acknowledging the risks of the relationship, saying, “If we were to date, my life would be over.”
Abington Police Chief Patrick Malloy says Jones has been placed on administrative leave with intent to dismiss, calling the allegations and arrest “profoundly disturbing.” He says the department will do everything in its power to regain the trust of the school community.
Jones was lauded as a hero last August after he and another Abington police officer caught a teen in the stands of a high school football game with a handgun loaded with a high-capacity magazine.
Jones is charged with felony institutional sexual assault and related charges.
His bail is set at $50,000, unsecured. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 21.
