DELAWARE (KYW Newsradio) — An Amber Alert was triggered when a baby was inside a car that was stolen in Delaware Wednesday night.
New Castle County Police say the 1-year-old was found safe outside of a Fine Wine & Good Spirits store in the Fairhill section of Philadelphia a few hours later, but police are still searching for the car and people believed to be involved in this case.
The ordeal started around 5:30 p.m. outside the 7-Eleven on South Gerald Drive in Newark, Delaware. The baby was in the backseat of a parked car that had the engine still running, police said.
“At that time a suspect vehicle pulled up. One suspect got out of that car and jumped into the victim’s Nissan Altima and then fled from the scene towards 95 and 273,” New Castle County Police Corporal Michael McNasby told our partners at NBC10.
Police were alerted and an Amber Alert was issued with an image and description of the baby and stolen vehicle — a 2010 Nissan Altima with rear passenger door damage and a Delaware license plate that reads 562644.
Hours later, police said the girl was found outside the store in Philadelphia and was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
Police are also searching for a black SUV used during the incident that they say was initially occupied by two people.
Anyone with information about the stolen vehicle or those who may have been involved is asked to contact New Castle County Police at (302) 573-2800.
