CAMDEN COUNTY, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — Whether you’re a seasoned green thumb or brand new to gardening, Camden County is accepting applications for gardening classes.
County Commissioner Jon Young said Camden County’s sustainability center in Blackwood is the place to be this winter and spring. The county’s annual Horticultural Training Program begins in January, for people of all skill levels.
“It’s all levels of learning that you can do. From seedlings, how to take care of plants, what plants are what, what’s the weeds and what do insects do to flowers and plants and how do we control all that,” explained Young.
He said you don’t need 10 acres to get going. It’s better to start small and build your skills. Young said gardening is also a great skill for residents to share.
“The idea of it is for them to go out and teach their neighbors and teach their children and teach their families how to grow and harvest your own at home,” Young said.
Those who finish the hybrid in-person/virtual program will be tapped to share their knowledge and volunteer their time as Camden County Certified Gardeners.
Classes are open to adults over 18, and will take place Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. until noon. The session begins January 24 and runs through April 13. Registration is open now on the county’s website.
