PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Loneliness does not necessarily mean you don't have friends. Many of us have friends, but the relationship is superficial without a meaningful relationship.
Psychologists often talk about the need for connections. The CDC warns that loneliness can harm a person's physical and mental health.
Recently, the CDC listed tips to help people build important connections with others.
If you find you are alone, consider volunteering or joining a club where there are people with similar interests. Be conscious about the amount of time you spend on social media. You can expand a friend network on social media, but how many of your contacts are meaningful?
Finally, if you are very shy and afraid to open up, make an appointment with your doctor to discuss your fears and concerns. It could be a very important meeting.
