CLIFTON HEIGHTS, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — The elusive bear that was roaming around Delaware County on Tuesday was captured overnight in Clifton Heights.
The bear was spotted in a tree in a residential yard on West Baltimore Pike and Church Street. Around midnight, Clifton Heights police and fire officials responded to aid Pennsylvania game wardens in capturing it.
The Clifton Heights Fire Company posted a video on social media of the response. The bear was tranquilized and started to lose its grip on the tree, slowly sliding down the trunk.
The bear finally got to the ground, and it was lights out. Crews rolled it onto a tarp and carried it to a cylinder-shaped trap for transportation.
Prior to its capture, the bear was spotted in Upper Darby and Drexel Hill Tuesday afternoon. The wardens initially used doughnuts to try to lure the bear into a trap, but those efforts were unsuccessful.
Officials plan to set it free in a less populated area where it can roam freely.
