Bicyclist, pedestrian hospitalized after being hit by fleeing driver, who was stopped by police

Driver is also hospitalized in stable condition, while pedestrian is listed as critical

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Three people are in the hospital after a driver struck a bicyclist and pedestrian in South Philadelphia and fled before being found by police.

Authorities say it happened at 6:45 p.m. Friday near FDR Park.

According to police, the driver of a Tesla struck a bicyclist and pedestrian, then sped off. Then, the driver crashed into a tree in the center median on Broad Street and tried to escape the scene on foot.

The 67-year-old driver was stopped by police and taken to a nearby hospital, where he was placed in stable condition. The 37-year-old bicyclist and 55-year-old pedestrian were taken to another hospital. The bicyclist is in stable condition, while the pedestrian is listed as critical.

Police have not arrested the driver at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
