PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — President-elect Joe Biden is back at home after being diagnosed with hairline fractures in his right foot.

Biden was in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware playing with his dog Major when he fell Saturday. He was examined Sunday afternoon at Delaware Orthopaedic Specialists in Newark, "out of an abundance of caution."

The president-elect saw Dr. Kevin Connor Sunday afternoon after returning to Wilmington. An initial x-ray showed only a sprain. The fractures were discovered in a follow-up CT scan.

Biden's doctor said he will be wearing a boot for the next several weeks.

The Bidens adopted German shepherd Major in 2018. They have had another German shepherd, Champ, since 2008. Major will become the first-ever shelter dog to move into the White House. The Bidens have also announced plans to bring a cat with them.

Despite the mishap, the president-elect's transition team has been busy. The office announced seven high-level communications appointments, all being filled by women. They include Kate Bedingfield, who was Biden's deputy campaign manager, as White House communications director and Jen Psaki as White House Press Secretary. She was a White House Communications Director during the Obama administration.

Biden receives his first presidential daily briefing on Monday.
