PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police found a decomposing body in the trunk of a stolen car in North Philadelphia Tuesday night.
Around 9 p.m., police received a 911 call about a suspicious Dodge Charger that was parked on the 2000 block of North Bambrey Street.
Police ran the plates and discovered the car had been reported stolen in Southwest Philadelphia last Friday. Chief Inspector Scott Small said there was a strong odor coming from the trunk.
“The fire department forced open the trunk of that vehicle, and that’s when they found what appeared to be a body that was wrapped,” he said. “You could not see whether the body was male or female or an approximate age.”
Authorities could not tell how long the person had been dead. The decomposing body was taken to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.
Police later identified the individual as 27-year-old Malik Tribble.
Police towed the car, and investigators will go through it to see if there are fingerprints, DNA or any pieces of evidence. Police will also search surveillance footage from the neighborhood as they try to identify anyone who may have been involved.
