PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Rescuers pulled a 3-year-old boy from a sewer pipe in West Chester Tuesday evening.
Fire officials said the boy was playing with his brother at the Hickman Sanitation Service site on Snyder Avenue around 5:20 p.m. when he fell in.
According to officials, the boy was at risk of falling all the way down into a septic tank. Luckily, he grabbed a pipe or a rope inside a pipe and held on for nearly 20 minutes.
The boy’s brother immediately told their mother what happened, and she called 911.
Officials commended the older brother’s quick thinking; he’s only a couple of years older than the victim.
When crews successfully pulled the 3-year-old out, he was crying and scared but had no visible injuries. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The incident is being investigated as an accident.
