PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Temple police are investigating another sexual assault that happened in an off-campus apartment. They are also on alert because a man has been exposing himself at the student center.

Jodi Bailey Accavallo, vice president for student affairs, and Denise Wilhelm, interim vice president for public safety and chief of police, sent a joint message to the school community on Monday explaining the incidents.

The sexual assault, which involved two students who knew each other, was reported to Temple police early that morning.

“While we cannot comment on the specifics of this matter, we can share that we are working directly with the student who reported the incident, helping them navigate through this experience,” the statement reads.

According to the Temple Public Safety crime log, which is available online, a “sex offense - rape” was reported early Sunday morning at the Avery Philly apartments. The complex is close to Broad Street and Cecil B. Moore Avenue, near campus.

There was no mention of charges. As Temple officials explained earlier this month when a separate rape was reported at a different apartment complex, it is the student’s decision whether charges are pursued or not.

The message from the top Temple officials also included a section about consent: “At Temple, a culture of consent starts by clearly defining what consent means and respecting one another’s boundaries. Whether on a date or at events with friends, we want you to be informed and empowered to navigate social situations with respect for one another.”

Separately, Temple officials also said a man has been exposing himself at the Howard Gittis Student Center in recent weeks. He is not affiliated with Temple.

In response, there have been more security walkthroughs in the building. Security staffers have also been given a picture of a potential suspect.
