UPDATE: July 29, 9:50 a.m.
PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 7-year-old boy was hospitalized Wednesday after he was shot in the hand in Germantown. Police are searching for two gunmen.
It happened around 8:10 p.m. Wednesday near the corner of Armstrong and Baynton streets, outside the Wister Townhomes Complex.
Police Inspector D.F. Pace said a stray bullet struck the boy. It was one of about 11 shots fired by at least two individuals.
"There were a number of people out just enjoying the nice weather, and he was among those neighbors who were out on this street," Pace said, adding that the boy was "not playing with a gun or anything of that nature."
Police took the boy to a hospital where he was placed in stable condition.
Officers did not initially arrest any suspects or recover a weapon on scene.
The shooting happened less than a week after a 13-year-old girl was shot in Germantown. Police said she was present during the beating death of 73-year-old James Lambert but was not charged with the crime.
