PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police are searching for two suspects and a getaway car allegedly involved in an attempted robbery of an armored Brinks truck in the city’s Rhawnhurst neighborhood Tuesday morning.

The incident happened around 11:30 a.m. near Castor Avenue and Rhawn Street. According to investigators, two armed men approached a Brinks employee at gunpoint. The guard then opened fire as the suspects fled into a black Nissan, possibly a Maxima or Altima, unknown Pennsylvania tag, heavily tinted windows, and black rims.

Neighbor Steven Petro told NBC10 he was in the shower when he heard an alarming sound.

"Just gunshots, I heard four quick gunshots in succession like it was an automatic weapon or something," said Petro. "It’s scary, y’know. People are just trying to make a living."

Officials said the armed guard shot at the suspects' vehicle as it sped away northbound on Castor Avenue.

Investigators found eight spent shell casings. They said no injuries have been reported.

There's no word if any money was taken, and so far, there have been no arrests.

This marks at least the fourth reported armored truck-related crime since June 21, when a Brinks truck was robbed in Port Richmond. A Loomis truck was robbed in Crescentville on June 26, and another Brinks truck was hit in Holmesburg on July 2. Investigators have not said whether the cases are connected.
