PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Bucks County voters will elect their board of commissioners on Tuesday. Four years ago, Democrats flipped the three-person board blue for the first time in decades. Now, Republicans are trying to win it back.
In county commissioner races, there are four names on the ballot — two from each party. The top three win a seat.
In 2019, Republican Gene DiGirolamo and Democrats Diane Marseglia and Bob Harvie won. Harvie edged out Republican Rob Loughery by just 664 votes, with each getting around 75,000 votes.
Marseglia, Harvie and DiGirolamo are back on the ballot this year, joined by Republican Pamela Van Blunk. Van Blunk was elected Bucks County controller in 2021.
In 2019, Harvie and Marseglia won Democrats the majority on the board for the first time since the 1980s. Marseglia and Harvie say they want to build on their accomplishments over the past four years, which they say include erasing an $8 million budget deficit without raising taxes and implementing environmental plans, fraud prevention ordinances and an initiative that puts a social worker in many police departments across the county to help with calls dealing with mental health.
DiGirolamo and Van Blunk will try to gain back the Republican majority at the top of Bucks County government. They both pledge fiscal responsibility and transparency and to continue to battle the opioid crisis, along with their support of law enforcement and public safety.
