PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) – Beloved community cat and international viral sensation Buddy has been officially adopted.
After an allegedly intentional dog attack left Buddy critically injured a couple of months ago, the Pennsylvania SPCA emergency veterinarian who saved his life, Dr. Katie Venanzi, has been fostering him in her home. The PSPCA has selected Venanzi to adopt him, which means he gets to stay right where he is.
“Now we turn the page. And everybody of course will still be following Buddy, I’m sure. He has an Instagram account, which is Save Every Buddy. And we will patiently be watching that as well for updates,” the PSPCA’s Gillian Kocher said.
Kocher said Buddy's story exemplifies what the PSPCA does.
"There is recovery. There is life after animal abuse. And Buddy is a symbol of that," she said.
“So we will continue to fight animal abuse here at the Pennsylvania SPCA, which we do every single day of the year. And we will be here for the next Buddy. And then, someday, we hope we will not have to be here anymore, because there won’t be any more animal abuse.”
Money came in from all around the world to pay for Buddy’s medical bills.
The criminal case continues to play out against the two boys who allegedly encouraged two dogs to attack Buddy as he sat on a porch in Frankford .
