BLACKWOOD, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — Animal shelters across the region are experiencing overcrowding. One shelter in Camden County hopes to solve that problem by lowering adoption fees — with an Eagles twist.

“I think everybody’s Super Bowl will be a little bit more fun this year if you have a little couch companion there for you,” Homeward Bound Pet Adoption Center executive director Ken Sieranski said.

The shelter is honoring Camden native and Eagles All-Pro linebacker Haason Reddick by lowering adoption fees to $7, which is the number Reddick wears for the Birds.

“On site and in foster care, we do have over 200 dogs,” Sieranski said. “Getting as many of those dogs into adoptive homes and into foster care is our top priority right now.”

The shelter is overcrowded, with dog crates near the entrance and all over the facility. Sieranski even has a dog crate in his office. He encourages people to come on down and fall in love with a new pet, “whether that’s a large dog, a small dog, a cat, and we have a couple of guinea pigs as well.”

Because it’s a designated open adoption center, they cannot refuse anyone surrendering an animal. Sieranski says it’s been rough the last year or so, as they’ve had a 40% increase in take-ins.

He adds they need foster homes, volunteers and could always use donations as well. Anyone interested in helping should contact Homeward Bound.
