
PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Philadelphia police officer is in the hospital with a serious head injury after a car crash Thursday morning in Center City.
Police say it was around 12:45 a.m. when a marked police cruiser collided with a sedan filled with four people on 5th and Callowhill streets.
The officer inside the cruiser was bleeding heavily from the face and head. He was taken to a hospital where he was placed in stable condition.
One of the people inside the sedan was unharmed, but the other three suffered injuries and were hospitalized. They are also in stable condition.
The police cruiser had severe front end damage, while the sedan ended up a mangled wreck on the sidewalk.
Police are currently investigating the cause of the crash.
