PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Central Bucks School Board voted Tuesday night to approve a more than $700,000 severance package for Superintendent Dr. Abram Lucabaugh following the announcement of his resignation.

Community members expressed their frustrations during the school board meeting, with public comments lasting 90 minutes. People in attendance jeered following the approval of the motion. Board members scolded them multiple times during the meeting and threatened to remove people from the audience.

Lucabaugh will receive multiple payments, totaling more than $700,000, including unused vacation and sick time.

Last week’s election flipped the Republican-majority school board. Its new members are scheduled to be seated on Dec. 4 — meaning the present Republican-controlled board voted on the terms of Lucabaugh’s severance.

The school board made headlines across the country after it adopted policies on content in books and banned LGBTQ pride flags and other political symbols in classrooms.

Lucabaugh’s contract was dated to end in June 2028.

In addition, the school board Tuesday night passed a transgender policy that bars trans student athletes from participating on sports teams aligned with their gender identities.
