‘Let’s fight’: Chesco mother charged with bringing knife, adults to school, fighting student

Shalynn Taylor allegedly used Snapchat to try to set up the fight to help her son

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The 43-year-old mother of a Coatesville High School student is charged with leading a group of adults to the school to help her son in a fight with another teen, later bringing a knife out.

According to charging documents from the Chester County District Attorney, it started with an argument during a basketball game in gym class.

The criminal complaint says after Shalynn Taylor’s son called her following the argument, she got on her son’s Snapchat account and posted videos of herself trying to schedule a fight between her son and the other student and his friends.

The complaint cited surveillance video showing that more than a week later, on February 17, Taylor and at least four other adults waited in the student parking lot for the teens to leave school.

As the five students were by their car, Taylor’s son walked up smiling and his mother yelled “Let’s fight, let’s do this," according to the complaint.

One of the students said, "We’re not doing this here," but the complaint said Taylor replied, "We’re gonna do this right here, now.”

That student said Taylor’s son rushed him and they started fighting. The complaint said that none of the other adults would let anyone get near the fight.

Taylor is accused of punching the other teen in the head, and kicked him twice, once in the face, while the first student was fighting her son.

The complaint said that after the fight was over, the video showed Taylor go to her car, pull out an 8 to 12-inch kitchen knife, and walk back toward the students, waving the knife.

Documents say her husband pulled her back and took the knife from her as police arrived on the scene.

Taylor is facing multiple counts of conspiracy to commit simple assault, possession of a weapon on school property, terroristic threats, and related charges.
