All Coatesville schools dismissed early due to social media shooting threat

Students will continue to learn remotely on Friday

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — All Coatesville Area School District schools are dismissing students Thursday morning after the district received a threat on social media.

Parents should have received an email of dismissal times. Sixth through 12th grades left at 10 a.m., and elementary students at 12:30 p.m.

Students were asked to log on to virtual learning once they get home. They will continue school from home on Friday.

The threat that circulated online claimed an individual would "shoot a Coatesville school next week," according to the district. A specific school was not named. There are no other details of the message.

The district said the dismissal is out of an abundance of caution. Police are investigating.

The superintendent said in a statement that students who would like to talk with someone can reach out to their school counselor. "Our counseling staff and equity teams will be prepared to discuss this with students when they return in person, as well."
