LANSDALE, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — Officials in Montgomery County are investigating a drive-by shooting that left three people injured, including two teenagers. They believe the victims were targeted.
Lansdale Borough Police Chief Michael Trail says the victims, ages 18, 19, and 21, were found lying on W. Hancock Street suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Police say they were attacked around 10 p.m. on Thursday.
"The preliminary investigation has revealed that the victims were walking westbound on W. Mount Vernon Street when a vehicle approached and the occupants of the vehicle opened fire," Trail said.
He says the three ran to the area of W. Hancock Street, about a block away, as the vehicle sped away.
The victims were all taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, however officials have not released information on their conditions. Trail said investigators found at least 10 shell casings near the scene, which match evidence in another shooting from about a month prior, in which one of the same victims was hurt.
"This shooting is being investigated in connection with a June 6, 2022, shooting on W. Fifth Street in Lansdale. One of the victims from [Thursday] night's shooting was shot. Shell casings from [Thursday] night shooting and the June 6 shooting are consistent with one another," Trail said.
Police say those victims are not cooperating in the investigation, so they are asking for help from the public in identifying the shooters.
"The reality is the perpetrators of these two shootings are known to members of the community and most likely known to the victims," Trail said. "I'm here today to ask the community for your help in identifying these individuals in order to take them off the street. We need your tips. We need your information."
Anyone with information is asked to call Lansdale Borough Police Department at (215) 368-1801 or submit a tip.
