SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — Authorities in South Jersey are investigating a home invasion that took the life of one of their own. A detective with the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office was shot and killed during the invasion Tuesday night at her Bridgeton residence.

Police were called to Sgt. Monica Mosley’s home, near Buckshutem and South Burlington roads, around 10:30 p.m. for a report of invaders kicking in the front door. When they arrived, they found 51-year-old Mosley had been shot. She died at the scene.

An investigation of the scene led officers to Inspira Hospital in Bridgeton and Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where they found one individual being treated for a gunshot wound. That person was detained for questioning.

Police have not identified the suspect or released any additional information. No arrests have been made at this time.

Mosley started in the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office in 2006 as a paralegal specialist and became a county detective in 2009. She served in numerous roles and departments within the office, including as the current unit supervisor of Internal Affairs.

Colleagues called her a “constant friend and role model for all those with whom she served and led” throughout the law enforcement community.

“She will be missed more than words can detail, but she will never be forgotten by her CCPO family,” Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae said in a statement.

“The men and women of the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office are utterly devastated by the loss of Detective Sergeant Monica Mosley. We are resolute in making sure that Monica is remembered for who she was, how she lived and how she touched each of our lives.”

Bridgeton Chief of Police Michael Gaimari said he knew Mosley for nearly her entire career.

“All of law enforcement feels the loss deeply, but our hearts go out to her family and friends including those that worked with her daily,” he added in a statement.
