3 elderly women hit by driver while crossing the street in Whitpain Township, leaving 2 dead

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A driver struck and killed two elderly women and injured a third as they were crossing a road in Whitpain Township, Montgomery County on New Year’s Eve, authorities said.

Around 6:30 p.m., investigators said a 31-year-old Springfield, Delaware County man was driving a Jeep Cherokee south on Butler Pike, near Skippack Pike, when he crashed into three pedestrians.

All three victims were taken to the hospital. Officials said an 82-year-old woman from Horsham Township and a 79-year-old woman from Southampton died from their injuries.

Police have not revealed the condition of the third victim, an 80-year-old woman from Warrington, Bucks County.

Investigators said the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with police.

Butler Pike was closed for a few hours but reopened late Tuesday night.
