MEDIA, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — New life may soon be on the way to two shuttered Delaware County hospital buildings at the center of a bankruptcy case.
Crozer-Chester Medical Center is reportedly being purchased for $10 million by Chariot Partners and Springfield Hospital for reportedly $3 million by Philadelphia-based Restorative Health Foundation and Syan Investments.
“Our understanding is that, both locations, the hope of both buyers is to bring some sort of medical services there, if not a community hospital,” said Dr. Monica Taylor, Delaware County Council chair.
After going into bankruptcy earlier this year, Prospect Medical Holdings closed hospitals and dozens of medical facilities around Delaware County.
“It has created a healthcare desert in some areas of our county,” said Taylor.
“Prospect went through a bidding process and there were two successful bidders: one on the Springfield location and one on the Crozer-Chester medical location,” she explained. “We’ll hopefully soon be rid of Prospect in our community.”
Taylor said she and Council have dedicated time, effort and money to making sure the county has their medical needs covered in the wake of Crozer closing its doors, and that these potential purchases would build on that work.
“It’s just very critical to be able to bring in more health care into our community, as we’ve been devastated by Prospect and what they have done to our hospitals that have been here for generations.”
The companies are still working through some of the final details of the sale.
Last month, it was reported that another former Crozer facility, the Taylor Hospital building in Ridley Park, would be purchased by a group of partners including Todd Strine, owner of Springfield ambulance service Keystone Quality Transport. And in May, Delaware-based ChristianaCare successfully bid at auction to purchase several of Crozer's outpatient facilities.
