PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia residents affected by last week’s severe thunderstorm are asked to report any damage to the city before Friday.
Heavy rainfall on July 12 caused homes in some far Northeast Philadelphia neighborhoods to flood.
About 5 to 6 inches of rain fell within three hours in some regions, according to the Philadelphia Water Department. Based on historical records and the average amount of rain for the month of July, officials say this event is considered a 100-year storm.
The Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management is asking homeowners who were impacted to fill out an online survey to see what resources are needed and what assistance may be available. Getting state and federal aid is a process, evident by the flooded neighborhoods in Bucks County still waiting for assistance.
Reports must be made by noon on Friday, July 23.
Officials say more than 500 preliminary damage reports have been submitted to the city so far.
Interested residents can receive updates from the Office of Emergency Management by following the department on its social media channels or by texting STORMPHL to 888-777.
