PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A passenger was thrown out of a car and killed after the vehicle slammed into a parked van in Mayfair early Wednesday.
Around 1:30 a.m., the 35-year-old man was in the passenger seat of a BMW as the driver was speeding south on Frankford Avenue, near Magee Avenue.
“Where there is a somewhat sharp curve,” Chief Inspector Scott Small said, “and that’s where we believe the vehicle that the 28-year-old female was driving lost control and struck the driver-side rear of that work van.”
The impact pushed the van onto the sidewalk. The passenger side of the BMW was torn off.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 28-year-old driver was not seriously injured. Police are testing her for drugs and alcohol.
Investigators said they were unsure if they were wearing seat belts.
