PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A man is dead and another is in the hospital in critical condition after a double shooting in East Germantown overnight.
Officers got to the scene on the 1300 block of East Johnson Street just before 12:30 a.m. Wednesday and found a 42-year-old man sitting in a parked GMC Yukon with multiple gunshot wounds throughout his torso.
He was taken to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Chief Inspector Scott Small said the man was armed with two semi-automatic handguns, and at least 11 shell casings were found on the street. Another car parked on the block also had a bullet hole in it.
“We believe the victim was shot outside the vehicle and then ran into the vehicle, because we found a trail of blood leading from the street to the vehicle,” Small said.
He said the Yukon did not sustain any bullet holes.
Meanwhile, Small said a 36-year-old man believed to be injured in the same shooting arrived at the hospital with two gunshot wounds to his chest. Police said he later died at the hospital.
Authorities do not have a motive at this time, but police hope real-time security camera footage from the block will help shed some light on what transpired.
“There’s also numerous business and private surveillance cameras on other properties,” Small added, “so hopefully these cameras recorded something.”
