PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — One man was killed and another was injured when dozens of shots were fired in North Philadelphia Tuesday night.

Officers on foot patrol at Fourth Street and Lehigh Avenue heard the popping sounds of gunfire around 9:45 p.m, police said.

The shooting was about a half-mile away on Lehigh Avenue, near Howard Street. Police Capt. Timothy Stephan said there were about 27 spent shell casings, and a white SUV was also peppered with bullet holes.

“Along with some projectiles and blood trails that led down the street — down Howard Street — and down 2600 Waterloo through an alleyway,” Stephan said.

The victims were not there, though. The two men who were shot were driven away from the scene and to the hospital, police said.

A 29-year-old victim was shot in the head and died. He was later identified as Joseph Marte. A 26-year-old man was shot seven times throughout his body and remains in critical condition.

No one has been arrested, and police did not indicate a motive.
