LANSDALE, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — Investigators in Montgomery County say a man broke into the apartment of his children’s mother and fatally shot the woman’s boyfriend Monday night.

According to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, neighbors at the Walnut Arms Apartments in Lansdale said they heard gunshots around 11 p.m. The apartment complex is located a few blocks away from the Lansdale train station.

When police arrived, they found 21-year-old Wesley Wayne Smith, of Philadelphia, shot dead on the floor of a bedroom. Another man, 21-year-old Christopher Moore Jr., was shot several times. He was flown to the hospital and is expected to physically recover.

Detectives learned Smith was visiting his girlfriend, Hailee Duerson Skeleton, at her apartment. While Smith was there, Moore, the father of Duerson Skeleton’s children, broke into the apartment through a bathroom window.

Police said he entered the bedroom and began shooting. Smith returned fire.

Officials said an autopsy will be conducted on Smith later on Tuesday.

It’s not clear if the children were in the apartment during the shooting. Authorities gave no indication that they or their mother were hurt.

At this point, it's not clear if charges were filed.

An investigation is ongoing.
