PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Two Delaware County police officers are accused of protecting a drug dealer from law enforcement, and one of them allegedly accepted cocaine in exchange.
Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday announced charges against Detective Vincent Procopio and Patrolman Dominic Dellabarba, both with the Sharon Hill Police Department. They are accused of feeding confidential police information to a drug dealer under investigation.
Prosecutors said Procopio tipped off the dealer about active investigations and identified informants who were working with police, and he accepted cocaine as payment.
He is facing several charges, including possession with intent to deliver for acting as an accomplice to drug dealing, bribery, and evidence tampering.
Dellabarba is facing obstruction charges for allegedly tipping off the dealer about active warrants.
The drug dealer is facing separate charges but is not being identified because they are cooperating with law enforcement.
Sunday called the officers’ actions “betrayals of the community and their fellow officers.”
“These selfish, criminal acts also stain the reputations of many public servants who make sacrifices for their communities every day across the Commonwealth,” he said.
