Delco offers tuition reimbursement to underemployed, unemployed residents for job training

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Delaware County residents out of work because of the economic fallout of the pandemic are taking advantage of a program to pursue occupations in high demand.

The Delaware County Workforce Development System offers assistance and tuition reimbursement for education or training for residents seeking jobs in all sorts of fields including health care, manufacturing, computer programming, and contact tracing.

COVID-19 has left nearly 14,000 of the county’s residents unemployed.

Monica Taylor, vice chair of Delaware County Council, said the office has essentially partnered with businesses and colleges in the area to build a program that lets unemployed or underemployed people get credit for certifications for certain jobs or to improve their skills.
