PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The beer may be hazy but the message is clear.

Dock Street Brewery, a family run business, has a new Hazy IPA called Found Friends, available in cans decorated with images of dogs and cats. The intention? To help save the lives of homeless animals.

For every 4-pack sold, $1 will be donated to support the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society’s (PAWS) mission of making Philadelphia a no-kill city for shelter animals. They say proceeds will also help the nonprofit provide medical and foster care, as well as some total love and care to rescues while they work toward finding them their next home.

“We have a passion for beer and animals, so I’m just so excited to see that coming together,” said Lauren Hanak, PAWS staff member and wife of Mark Russel, head brewer of Dock Street.

Featured on the cans are the couple's three rescue cats, Firn, Salina and Smithers, as well as some of the other brewery workers' dogs.

Russell says the IPA contains 6.5% alcohol.

“Pretty accessible as far as IPAs go, it’s very smooth,” he said. “The bitterness is balanced with the sweetness. For people who might not like IPAs, they’ll probably still like it.”

Found Friends can be purchased at the brewery’s South Philly and Fishtown locations, as well at Giant and ACME stores.
