PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A grandmother was fatally struck in Southwest Philadelphia Monday morning while taking her grandkids to school.

It happened around 7:30 a.m. along Regent Street near 66th Street and Chester Avenue.

Police say a 30-year-old was backing down a one-way street and somehow lost control of the car, sending it into a tailspin. That’s when the car hit the 65-year-old grandmother, who was standing on the sidewalk. She was declared dead at the scene.

The car was towed. Authorities say they are continuing to investigate to figure out exactly what happened.
