PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A driver has been charged with driving while intoxicated after police said he crashed into an unmarked cop car that was parked right outside of the Gloucester Township Police Department.

Around 12:40 a.m. Monday, surveillance footage shows a white Dodge Charger lose control and knock out a stop sign, then slam into a tree and the police car.

Police said 28-year-old Jimi Morales, of Pennsauken, was behind the wheel and showed signs of intoxication.

Gloucester Township Police Chief David Harkins said there has been an increase in the number of people driving under the influence since Memorial Day.

“We are very lucky that no officers or citizens were injured by this drunk driver crashing into our parking lot,” he said. “We will be re-doubling our efforts to combat drunk and/or drugged driving.”

Morales also had an outstanding warrant in Pennsylvania.
