PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission says Penn is obstructing its efforts to investigate antisemitism on campus. It has filed an action in federal court to try to force the university to comply with its subpoena for the identity of witnesses and victims of religious-based harassment.
The Trump administration said Penn has “failed to effectively address complaints of harassment ... and instead allowed harassment to escalate.” Penn said it has worked “diligently” to combat antisemitism on campus.
In a statement, the school said it has provided nearly 900 pages of documents to the EEOC and has offered to inform employees how to contact the agency.
However, Penn said it has “not turned over to the government lists of Jewish employees, Jewish student employees and those associated with Jewish organizations, or their personal contact information. Violating their privacy and trust is antithetical to ensuring Penn’s Jewish community feels protected and safe.” The university said it objects to sharing information about employees without their consent.
