PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — New charges have been added to an indictment against the former Philadelphia city treasurer.

Christian Dunbar was charged in September with entering into a sham marriage to gain U.S. citizenship and stealing money from clients' accounts when he worked as a financial adviser at Wells Fargo.

Now, in addition, federal prosecutors are charging him with filing false tax returns and failing to file at all for three years.

Most of the charges go back to 2015, before he began to work for the city. Just one charge — failure to file his 2019 tax return — occurred while he was treasurer.

After Dunbar was fired in September, the city's inspector general conducted a review of transactions that occurred while Dunbar was treasurer. A city spokesperson says the review found no direct evidence that any funds were misappropriated and that the findings have been shared with the FBI.

In October 2022, Christian Dunbar pleaded guilty to four counts of false statements in support of naturalization and three counts of failure to file tax returns. He was sentenced in April 2023 to three years of supervised release and has to spend the first six months under house arrest. He is also to provide the probation office with yearly tax returns, among other guidelines and restrictions.
