PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Worcester man accused of firing a gun into the Montgomery County Democratic Committee's office is now in federal custody.

48-year-old Anthony Nero was arrested and charged in Montgomery County. But those charges have been dropped as federal authorities are taking over the case.

According to federal court documents, in an interview with Norristown police and an FBI agent, Nero admitted he sent a message through the county Democratic party's website, advising them to "beef up security," and saying "Random acts of violence are difficult to investigate."

The message was received by county Democrats on January 7, the day after the Capitol insurrection.

The complaint also alleges he confessed to firing three shots into the office around 12:30 a.m. one morning in January.

Those bullet holes were discovered on Inauguration Day, January 20. No one was in the office at the time. The bullets were found lodged in a desk.

Nero has an initial appearance scheduled for Friday.
