PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The massive fan advantage did not matter in the end. Despite the stands at Philadelphia Stadium (Lincoln Financial Field) being painted yellow with Ecuadorian fans, Ecuador fell to the Ivory Coast 1-0 Sunday night.

Amad Diallo scored in the 90th minute to lift Ivory Coast to a 1-0 victory over Ecuador in its first World Cup appearance in a dozen years.

Ivory Coast has been preparing in the region, staying in Wilmington and training at the Philadelphia Union's stadium in Chester.

This was the first of five group-stage games being played in Philadelphia, featuring countries from across the globe. On July Fourth — the nation’s 250th birthday — there will be a Round of 16 games in the knockout stage.
