Former South Jersey cop pleads guilty to charge stemming from use of force incident

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A former South Jersey police officer has pleaded guilty to a charge stemming from a use of force incident this past summer.

Ryan Dubiel pleaded guilty to one of the two counts of simple assault.

The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office said he has been sentenced to one year of probation, is prohibited from having contact with the victims, and must abide by any additional terms deemed appropriate by probation.

The 32-year-old was an officer with the Woodlynne Police Department for less than a year before the incident that happened in June. It was his ninth police department.

In a video released by the prosecutor’s office, Dubiel is seen pepper-spraying two teenagers and continues to do so as one of the boys tries to run away.

Dubiel agreed to forfeit his position within the department as part of the deal.

He is also prohibited from holding any public office within the State of New Jersey, including serving as a police officer.
