PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Federal and New York investigators are in Philadelphia trying to learn as much as they can about Brooklyn subway shooting suspect Frank James. Authorities believe was staying in Philly up until the day before the attack. Police arrested James on Wednesday in Manhattan "without incident."

According to federal court documents, James, 62, was staying in an apartment in Philadelphia for two weeks before the shooting, from March 28 through April 10. Inside, FBI agents found ammunition magazines — one for a handgun, empty, and another for a high-capacity rifle — as well as a taser and a smoke canister according to the criminal complaint.
They believe he used the ride-hailing app Lyft to get to and from that apartment about 21 times.
The complaint also reveals James had rented a storage unit in North Philadelphia, in which they found ammunition for a handgun and AR-15, a silencer and targets. Officials say he last visited the unit around 6:15 p.m. the day before the attack in New York City.
Sources say James had addresses in Philadelphia through the 1980s and '90s, and up until about 15 years ago.
The suspect does not have a criminal record in Philadelphia, but has some prior arrests in New Jersey including trespassing, larceny and disorderly conduct. He also has prior arrests in New York, including burglary, theft and criminal sex acts.
Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw shared this statement in response to the investigation:
“We continue to monitor the situation behind yesterday’s horrible subway attack in Brooklyn, New York. We know that a U-Haul vehicle operated by the person involved was rented the day before the attack from a facility here in Philadelphia and as such, our personnel are assisting the New York police department and FBI investigator in as many ways as we can, however they need us.”
