PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Neither COVID-19 nor snowstorms can stop the region’s Girl Scouts from conducting their annual cookie sale.

Like many across the country this year, the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania are selling the beloved snacks through online cookie booths.

“We are hitting the ground running,” said Jennifer Allebach, chief mission officer for the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania. “We, of course, are virtual this year. We’re protecting the safety of our girls and our leaders and we want to make sure that we’re selling.”

Buyers can go to the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania’s website, where it directs you to troops within the nine-county area. You can find a troop near you based on your ZIP code and opt for curbside pickup or shipping.

“You can go online and order them to be delivered or to be delivered through the U.S. mail,” Allebach added.

Vicki Lupica, senior director of communications, said a lot of creativity has gone into this year’s pitch.

“Some of the girls have done their own videos,” she said. “They have in two days met their online order goal for the whole season. These girls, because they’re so ingenious, have really embraced having the virtual booths.”

In fact, Lupica said cookie sales are already exceeding last year’s numbers.

The national Girl Scouts program also partnered with Grubhub in select cities to fulfill girls’ contact-free cookie orders. Consumers can order cookies for pickup or delivery through Grubhub.

The partnership aims to give local Girl Scouts experience in entrepreneurship by tracking orders and managing inventory, all while using Grubhub’s back-end technology.

Grubhub is waiving all fees for the organization, and it is also offering free delivery on cookie orders through Feb. 14 with a minimum purchase of $15.

Grubhub cookie orders are currently supported in New Jersey. Additional markets will be added throughout the season.
