Grants available for Philadelphia historic sites in need of repair

Keystone Historic Preservation Grant to offer grants of up to $100,000

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Philadelphia-area grant is giving non-profits a chance to help keep history alive.

The Keystone Historic Preservation Grant program is now accepting applications from organizations wishing to rehabilitate, preserve, or restore historic structures.

"What's exciting about this," said Howard Pollman of the Pennsylvania Historical Museum Commission, "is that we've increased the funding to $2.5 million."

Pollman said these grants range from $5,000 to $100,000. They can go a long way in helping quite a few Philadelphia historic sites in desperate need of repair.

"Philadelphia is such a historic town," Pollman added.

"There are a lot of historic structures that are on the National Register [of Historic Places] listing, some truly historic and unique structures that can benefit from these funds."

The grant program requires a 50/50 cash match. It is for non-profit and local government organizations.
